Why did we do it?

To build something new. To do it better.

This is our art.

Two friends, Jonas and Jimmy, started Bisous nearly a decade ago as a passion project with a simple goal: create the highest quality sunglasses possible.

In 2018, we produced our first run of just 300 pairs. A year later, we brought on a strategic partner to grow the business while staying focused on what mattered most — product, people, and long-term vision.

By June of 2021, sales were growing quickly, but something was still missing.

As the business has evolved, so has our understanding of success. Our philosophy is remarkably simple: Deliver the highest quality product possible. Help people look and feel their best. Treat people with love and respect. Work hard. That’s the business plan.

People loved the product but...

what stood between Bisous and its next chapter was simple and terrifying. Someone had to take the leap.

At the time, Jonas was running operations at New York-based mobility company Revel Transit, overseeing hundreds of employees and thousands of electric vehicles across five major U.S. cities. On paper, it was the kind of career people spend years chasing.

But the sunglasses kept growing.

Jonas’ manager at the time — let’s call her “A” — had watched Bisous evolve. She had purchased a pair herself and once described the experience of putting them on for the first time as “transcendental.”

One day, during a conference call about EV charging operations, she asked a simple question:

“Do you want to be doing this?”

“Nope,” Jonas replied.

“Sunglasses?”

“Yep. It’s time.”

That moment became a turning point for the company. Jonas and Jimmy parted ways, and Jonas set out, like a lone wolf, into the night.

This story matters because

it reflects the level of conviction we have in our product and in what we are building. Bisous was never created to chase trends or maximize short-term margins. It was built around the belief that people deserve a better product, a better experience, and objects they genuinely love owning for years.

From the beginning, we have had two guiding principles.

The first was simple: without compromise.

We traveled the world building relationships with suppliers and manufacturers who had spent generations refining their craft. Our acetate comes from Italy, our hinges from Germany, and our lenses from Korea. Every material decision was made with longevity, comfort, and enduring quality in mind.

The second principle became our philosophy:

Built to Withstand the Rigors of Leisure.

We wanted to create sunglasses people would actually live in — on boats, at dinners, in cities, on vacations, and everywhere in between. Beautiful enough to feel special, durable enough to wear without hesitation, and thoughtfully designed enough to become part of people’s lives for years.

And to every person who has taken the leap from an established brand to ours — thank you. Truly. There are far bigger names, louder logos, and easier choices out there, and the fact that you chose Bisous means more to us than we can properly express.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in what we are building.
